Dr. Sarah Kattakuzhy is an associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and co-director of the Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine. She is overseeing a clinical trial to see if semaglutides can reduce cocaine abuse and improve drug use outcomes.

An internationally recognized expert in gerontology, Dr. Resnick focuses on developing innovative interventions to motivate older adults to engage in healthy behaviors, particularly with regard to function and physical activity as well as other behaviors such as adhering to recommended immunizations and to managing pain and other symptoms commonly noted in aging, and to implement these in real-world settings. These interventions are designed to optimize recovery, health, function, and physical activity regardless of age or underlying co-morbidities. Examples include helping individuals recover from orthopedic events or, for individuals with and without dementia, to optimize their participation in personal care activities and ambulation and engage in physical activity.

She is a professor and associate dean of research at the University of Maryland School of Nursing.

Deborah Shlian, MD ’72, MBA is a physician, healthcare consultant and author of numerous nonfiction articles and books as well as seven award winning medical mystery/thrillers, three co-authored with her husband, Joel Shlian, MD '72, MBA. Both are University of Maryland School of Medicine alumni.

Their first novel, Double Illusion, was optioned for film.

She began her consultancy as Shlian and Associates in 1990. She is a board certified Family Practitioner and MBA with over 16 years of managed care experience as both a clinician and manager who brings a unique perspective to health care searches and consulting. Joel joined the firm in 1994. 

Deborah's other fiction novels include Wednesday’s Child and Rabbit in the Moon. She has also authored a series, Lessons Learned, featuring stories from women in STEM and medical fields. 

Ian Kleckner PhD MPH, is the director of the Cancer Control Mind and Body Lab and associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. He studies how cancer chemotherapy causes side-effects such as neuropathy and distress, and how to treat these symptoms using exercise and healthy eating. He uses methods from psychophysiology (measuring heartbeats, skin conductance), neuroimaging (fMRI), exercise science, and behavioral science with computational approaches honed from his background from physics and biophysics.

Jody Olsen, PhD, MSW '72, served as Peace Corps director from 2018 to 2021. 

She is a former visiting professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and was director of its Center for Global Education Initiatives for eight years. 

Olsen was a Peace Corps volunteer in Tunisia from 1966 to 1968 and has served the agency in five other senior positions, including deputy director. Her memoir about her decades of Peace Corps service, “A Million Miles: My Peace Corps Journey,” was published in October 2024.

Larry Pitrof is the executive director of the Medical Alumni Association of the University of Maryland, leading the organization since 1994. He is the author of "University of Maryland School of Medicine: The First Two Centuries 1807-2007."  He is a past recipient of the Theodore E. Woodward Award to commemorate their support of the University of Maryland, Baltimore Health Sciences and Human Services Library. 

Meg Fairfaix Fielding is the director of the History of Maryland medicine at the Maryland State Medical Society. Meg writes the Hot House column for Baltimore Fishbowl, and is the past president of the Baltimore Architectural Foundation.

Michael Allen, MSW '03, is the Chief Executive Officer of Therapeutic Connections, where is responsible for the day-to-day operations. He manages all intakes, markets and networks with referral sources, and manages all the billing and fiscal responsibilities. He is also the chairman of the University of Maryland School of Social Work Alumni Board.

Margaret "Peggy" C. Wilmoth is a professor at the School of Nursing, UNC Chapel Hill. She joined the faculty of the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in August 2017 as the inaugural Executive Vice Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. She also served as Interim Dean and inaugural dean of the Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing and Health Professions. 

Wilmoth had a concurrent career in the U.S. Army Reserve, where she commanded units of various size and complexity, including serving as the first nurse and female commanding general of a medical brigade with responsibility for wartime readiness of all the US Army Reserve medical assets in the Southeastern U.S., including Puerto Rico. She was promoted to Major General and assigned to the Office of the Surgeon General, where she served as the Deputy Surgeon General for the Army Reserve.

She is an alumna of the University of Maryland School of Nursing (BSN '75, MS '79).

Dr. Robert E. Morris, DDS ’69, MPH, FICD, is a global health pioneer and University of Maryland School of Dentistry alumnus honored with UMB’s 2025 Honorary Doctor of Public Service degree. A Navy veteran whose service in Vietnam inspired a lifelong commitment to public health, Morris has spent five decades improving oral health systems worldwide — from training dental nurses across the Caribbean to leading health initiatives in Kuwait and South America. He co-founded Vietnam’s Mai Tam House of Hope for mothers and children affected by HIV/AIDS, survived captivity during the Gulf War, and continues to champion education, equity, and care for vulnerable populations. His extraordinary career reflects service, resilience, and global impact.

Tamika L. Tremaglio is the managing partner of TA Sports Ventures, providing strategic advice to sovereigns, private sector, venture, and sports organizations seeking to optimize their global strategies in sports.

She served as executive director of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) from January 2022 to November 2023, when the NBPA completed a Collective Bargaining Agreement in under 18 months, with a potential $50 billion  increase in salaries and benefits over the 7-year term.

Prior to joining the NBPA, Tremaglio served as the managing principal for Deloitte’s Greater Washington offices where she managed over 15,000 professionals across 17 offices that provided market-leading audit, tax, advisory, and consulting services. 

Tremaglio earned her BA from Mount St. Mary’s University in business and finance in 1992. She received her JD from Maryland Carey Law in 1995 and an MBA from the University of Baltimore in 1995.

Dr. Chen is an adult infectious disease physician-scientist with a specific interest in developing vaccines. He is Chief of the Adult Clinical Studies section within the Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health and Director of the UMB Travel Medicine Practice. His research is concentrated on two broad areas of global health. First, he is devoted to developing vaccines for enteric pathogens, infectious diseases chiefly of resource poor and economically disadvantaged countries and populations. Second, he is interested in improved vaccines for the elderly, a rapidly growing segment of the global population which is susceptible to many infections and a special population that generally responds poorly to vaccination.
