Robert E. Morris, DDS ’69, MPH, FICD

Dr. Robert E. Morris, DDS ’69, MPH, FICD, is a global health pioneer and University of Maryland School of Dentistry alumnus honored with UMB’s 2025 Honorary Doctor of Public Service degree. A Navy veteran whose service in Vietnam inspired a lifelong commitment to public health, Morris has spent five decades improving oral health systems worldwide — from training dental nurses across the Caribbean to leading health initiatives in Kuwait and South America. He co-founded Vietnam’s Mai Tam House of Hope for mothers and children affected by HIV/AIDS, survived captivity during the Gulf War, and continues to champion education, equity, and care for vulnerable populations. His extraordinary career reflects service, resilience, and global impact.
